Trainer for Tinkercademy - Teach Arduino - Mobile - Web Programming job at Tinkertanker Pte Ltd Singapore

Tinkertanker is a software engineering firm focusing on education and technology. Through our education brand Tinkercademy, we spread our love for programming and electronics with fun and interactive classes for students and even teachers.

We conduct courses for schools and the public in Singapore. We’re proud to be an Infocomm Club Appointed Vendor (ICAV), offering courses for IDA’s ICT Learning Roadmap to prepare students to become builders of our Smart Nation. We teach primary, secondary, and tertiary students and instructors.

We’re a group of practitioners in both education and technology. Within the Tinkertanker umbrella, we have a series of well-loved products that provide solutions from elegant guest registration (GuestDay, 300+ events since 2013) to really simple ID Photo taking (IC Photo & ID PhotoPrint Apps, over 600,000 downloads) to home cleaning (Spickify, acquired by Rocket-backed Helpling in March 2015). We apply our practical knowledge of software development & app design, our experience in classroom teaching, and our NIE training in educational pedagogy to create effective and authentic coding courses.

We are hiring part-time coding and/or electronics trainers. Our classes:

  • Infocomm Clubs in schools, on weekday afternoons. Mostly secondary school, age range 10 and up.
  • Full-day workshops in schools or for the public. Age range 6 and up.
  • Ad hoc workshops for public, for students age 6 to infinity.

This is a perfect gig if you:

  • have just finished NS and are looking for meaningful things to do while waiting to start school,
  • are working on your own startup and just need some cash so you can keep going (we've been there), or
  • are currently in school and want to earn some extra pocket money (but your education should come first – don't skip classes for us!)

Aside from the obvious perks of getting paid good money and making a difference, teaching deepens your technical understanding, exercises your confidence in public speaking, and makes you more interesting for college admissions (if that's what you're doing next).

We're looking for coders who like to tinker with technology and are eager to spread their passion for programming. Teaching is not easy – you'll have to be energetic, be able to grasp new concepts quickly, but also be patient with those who aren't as quick as you. That said, we'll do our best to match you up with students who would benefit most from your particular teaching style and background.

It's okay if you do not have any prior teaching experience – initially you won't be placed in a classroom solo and you'll have a more experienced trainer taking point.

Here are some of the topics we cover:

  • Android
  • Arduino
  • HTML, CSS & Javascript
  • iOS
  • Python
  • Raspberry Pi
  • Ruby on Rails
  • Scratch
  • Security
  • Unity

You don't have to be proficient in everything we teach, but a basic understanding of programming, and the ability + willingness to learn fast, would be very helpful.
